With gamplay similar to that found in Telltale games, Resurgence incorporates mini-games throughout the story. While the story of Star Trek: Resurgence alone makes it worth playing, the gameplay leaves a little to be desired. As with many Star Trek episodes, things go wrong before they go right, and the characters are forced to work together and make tough decisions. The story flows nicely, with story beats that make sense and eventually lead to a satisfying resolution. The dialogue not only serves to reveal important backstory and information, but also adds depth and personality to the many characters. Star Trek loves a good speech, and Resurgence certainly has no shortage of dialogue. The story takes its time (the game takes 10-15 hours to complete), but that time allows for more character interactions and conversations. The Tkon were an extremely advanced civilization that ruled an enormous empire six-hundred-thousand years ago. The main story acts as a follow-up of sorts to The Next Generation episode "The Last Outpost," and includes a major storyline about the mysterious Tkon. The story draws on established Trek lore, while also introducing compelling new elements. The top-tier storytelling makes it clear the creators of this game know their way around Star Trek, and their love for the franchise is obvious. Star Trek: Resurgence tells a complex and interesting story that would fit right in on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
